WELLAND, ON – The Welland Jackfish are proud to announce that outfielder Daiki Abe has been named the 2026 Canadian Baseball League (CBL) Rookie of the Year, earning the prestigious Brian Kerr Memorial Trophy following an outstanding first season with the club.

Abe quickly established himself as one of the league's most exciting players in 2026, delivering an exceptional combination of offensive production, speed and consistency that made him a key contributor to the Jackfish's championship-winning season.

The dynamic rookie finished the regular season with an impressive .397 batting average and .989 OPS, ranking among the league's top offensive performers. Abe also finished second in the CBL in hits while leading the league in both runs scored and stolen bases, showcasing his ability to impact games in multiple ways.

"Daiki was an absolute game-changer for us from the moment he put on a Jackfish uniform," said Ryan Harrison, President and Director of Fun of the Welland Jackfish. "His energy, work ethic and ability to make things happen every time he stepped onto the field made him a fan favourite at The Pond. To see him recognized as the league's top rookie after helping us bring another championship to Welland is incredibly special."

Abe's speed on the basepaths, consistent hitting and exciting style of play quickly made him a favourite among the FINatics, providing countless memorable moments throughout the summer at Welland Stadium.

His contributions helped power the Jackfish to a 31-17 regular-season record, a share of first place in the CBL standings and ultimately another league championship.

The Brian Kerr Memorial Trophy recognizes the Canadian Baseball League's most outstanding rookie performer each season, and Abe's remarkable debut campaign made him a deserving recipient of the honour.
