Bombs Away! Five Home Runs Lead to Win Over Panthers

KITCHENER – Welland scored nine of the game’s last 10 runs and erased an early deficit to knock off Kitchener, 11-7, Wednesday night at Jack Couch Park.


Justin Gideon and James Smibert each went 3-for-5 with a pair of home runs and three RBI for the Jackfish (27-10), which trailed 6-2 after the fourth and moved back into a first-place tie with London. Gianfranco Morello added a solo blast, while Sam Cawker also drove in a run.


Brandon Underhill (3-0) picked up the win, tossing 1.2 innings of scoreless relief. He scattered three hits and struck out two.

Chris Boatto allowed a run on one hit in a four-inning save, his fifth save of the season. He walked two and struck out seven. Chris Lazar started and went 3.1 innings, giving up six runs on seven hits with a walk and two strikeouts.


For Kitchener, Keegan Marsden hit two home runs and drove in three. Stephen Nahrabeki and Blake Jacklin both had a pair of RBI. Jett Jarvis and Dan Mahoney both had a pair of hits.


Tyler Lawrence (1-1) took the loss, giving up four runs on three hits in 2.2 innings of relief. He walked two and struck out two.


Christian Hauck started and went 5.2 innings, giving up six runs on nine hits with two walks and seven strikeouts. Kitchener dropped to 14-22.
