James Bradwell pitched seven strong innings as the Welland Jackfish hurt the Hamilton Cardinals 7-1 in Intercounty Baseball League action Thursday night.

Bradwell gave up just five hits, while walking a pair and striking out nine Hamilton hitters.

"Bradwell has been great since he flipped from the bullpen to a starter," Welland manager Brian Essery explained.

Hogan Brown and Sam Cawker both had two RBI. Brown also contributed with a highlight reel catch in right field.

"Our bats were better tonight," said Essery after his team pounded out 10 hits.

"That was a big win tonight. We certainly needed it."

The Jackfish improved to an IBL best (25-8) on the season with the victory, while the Cardinals fell to (15-18).

Welland visits Barrie on Saturday and Kitchener on Sunday before welcoming the Baycats to The Pond next Thursday night.
