Dominican Righty Bolsters Jackfish Rotation

WELLAND – The Welland Jackfish, members of the Intercounty Baseball League (IBL) today announce the signing of right-handed pitcher Euclides Leyer for the 2019 season.

The El Seibo, Dominican Republic native and Chicago White Sox prospect joins the Jackfish after spending the 2018 season with the Brantford Red Sox. In nine starts Leyer recorded a 3.66 ERA and seventy-three strikeouts and thirty-one walks.

“Anytime you have an opportunity to add a workhorse pitcher that amongst those that pitched 60 or more innings in 2018 was top 3 in all categories you do it” said Jackfish General Manager Jason McKay. “We are as excited to bring this level of talent to Welland as Euclides is to be here.”

In seven professional seasons, Leyer recorded a 4.74 ERA reaching as high as double A with the White Sox farm team the Birmingham Barons. Leyers best season came during the 2015 season with the Winston-Salem Dash where he had a 4-2 record with forty-six strikeouts and twenty-seven walks.
