Fish make history in win over Barnstormers
CHATHAM-KENT - The Jackfish set their best start in team history on Saturday with a 12-2 win over the Chatham-Kent Barnstormers at Fergie Jenkins Field.
Robert Mullen went 3-for-4 with two home runs in the victory. Welland’s catcher and cleanup hitter connected on a two-run blast to open the scoring in the first inning and added a solo shot in the eighth.
Jonah Weisner had two hits, including a solo home run, and two RBI, while Jake Sanford and Greyson Barrett also hit solo blasts. Gianfranco Morello went 3-for-4 and drove in three, Brandon Hupe had two hits and an RBI, and Caleb Feuerstake scored twice.
Euclides Leyer (2-0) went six innings on the mound for the win. He gave up a run on two hits, walked one and struck out three.
Yushin Ohta hit a solo home run for the Barnstormers (2-4). Tim Wagner had two hits, including an RBI single.
Mizuki Akatsuka (0-1) yielded six runs on nine hits over seven innings to take the loss. He walked two and recorded six punchouts.
