Four Current and Former Jackfish Named to Baseball Canada Roster for 2025 WBSC Copa América

WELLAND - The Welland Jackfish, Niagara’s Greatest Show, announced today that two current and two former Jackfish were named to the Baseball Canada Roster for the upcoming 2025 WBSC Copa América Tournament in La Chorrera, Panama, taking place November 13-17.
2025 Jackfish Ben Abram (RHP) and Jake Sanford (OF) will join former Jackfish Christian Young (2019-2021) and Brandon Marklund (2024), who will represent the Jackfish in Panama.
Abram (25) finished the 2025 season with an impressive 7-2 record with a 3.02 ERA through 68.1 innings of work. The Georgetown native completed his third season with the Fish, capturing his second league championship following a start on September 14th in which the Jackfish took the series 4-1 over the Barrie Baycats.
Sanford (28) split time between the Jackfish and the Ottawa Titans of the Frontier League in 2025. During his time with the Fish this season, Jake recorded a .355 average with 3 doubles, 3 triples, two home runs and 9 RBI.
Marklund (29) spent the 2024 season with the Jackfish before signing with the Ottawa Titans of the Frontier League for 2025. In 28 innings of work in 2024, Marklund recorded 26 strikeouts and a 1-1 record.
Young (29) is one of the most accomplished former Jackfish player following the 2019 and 2021 seasons in the Rose City. The Los Angeles Angels prospect recorded a 2.45 ERA in 2021 with 30 strikeouts and only 5 walks. Christian still holds the Jackfish team record for the most strikeouts in a single game with 16.
Canada will open play on November 13 against the host nation, Panama, before facing the remainder of Group B in round-robin action.
The national team will travel to Dunedin, Florida to host a three-day training camp at the Toronto Blue Jays Player Development Complex from November 7-10.
