Jackfish add five-time IBL Champion Lawson

Welland, Ontario - The Welland Jackfish, members of the Intercounty Baseball League (IBL) today announced the signing of right-handed pitcher and five-time IBL Champion, Brett Lawson.

Lawson, a 6-foot-8, Mississauga, Ontario native joins the Jackfish following suiting up for the Guelph Royals in 2019. In 13 games played in 2019, Brett recorded a 2.97 ERA with 46 strikeouts and only 7 walks.

Winning the IBL's Dominico Cup with the Barrie Baycats between 2014 and 2018, Brett brings the Jackfish nine years of IBL experience to the locker room.

"When you have an opportunity to add a pitcher like Brett Lawson to your pitching staff you take it" says Jackfish General Manager, Jason McKay.

"Brett has been an integral component of multiple IBL championship teams along with six seasons of professional experience.  Coming our way through the dispersal draft we had our eyes on Brett from the very beginning.  I reached out to Brett in advance of the draft to let him know that ‘if available’ we were taking him with our first pick. Brett has a strong desire to win and unmatched competitiveness, that helps us on the field and ‘in’ the clubhouse."

Drafted by the Minnesota Twins in the 15th round of the 2001 MLB June Amateur Draft from Northwestern Oklahoma State University, Brett spent six seasons in professional baseball before arriving in the IBL.
