Jackfish batter Brantford

By Rod Mawhood

The Welland Jackfish improved to an IBL best (25-9) on the season with an emphatic 17-5 victory over the visiting Brantford Red Sox.

A four-run fifth inning, and five-run eighth inning were all the Jackfish would need to improve to (15-4) at Welland Stadium.

"Ya, it was nice to win at home before we hit the road for two weeks," said Jackfish Manager Brian Essery.

The Niagara 2022 Canada Summer Games move into The Pond starting this Sunday August 7.

"We have two tough games in Barrie and London this weekend so it will be nice to hit the road after a win tonight," Essery added.

Hogan Brown, hitting in the leadoff spot, went 3-for-4 with four runs, one RBI and five stolen bases for Welland who finished with 10 stolen bases on the night.

Wyatt Hummel picked up the win for the Jackfish who next return home on Thursday August 18 against the Hamilton Cardinals.
