Jackfish Blank Majors 3-0

The Welland Jackfish bounced back from a tough extra-inning loss on Thursday with a convincing 3-0 shutout victory over the London Majors on Saturday night at Welland Stadium.

In front of 2,932 fans, Euclides Leyer, Pedro De Los Santos, and Deivy Mendez combined to silence the Majors' offense. Leyer delivered seven strong innings before turning things over to the bullpen, while Mendez recorded the final five outs to earn the save.

"Definitely a game we felt we needed after that tough loss the other night," said Jackfish Manager Brian Essery.

The Jackfish entered Saturday's contest looking to rebound after dropping an 11-10 decision in 10 innings to the Guelph Royals on Thursday.

"Leyer gave us seven great innings tonight, and Deivy did his thing. He got some really tough outs tonight," Essery added.

Offensively, Jonah Weisner led the way for Welland, driving in a pair of runs in the victory.

"Weisner has been getting big hits every game so far. He's playing with a lot of confidence. That was a good bounce-back win against another strong team," said Essery.

The Jackfish will travel to Toronto on Sunday afternoon to take on the Maple Leafs before returning home Thursday night to host the Brantford Red Sox. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
