The Welland Jackfish swept a home and home against the Barrie Baycats with an emphatic 15-1 victory Saturday night in front of another sellout crowd at The Pond.
The Jackfish set a single-season attendance record as 45, 306 fans have entered Welland Stadium thus far in 2025.
Saturday night, James Smibert made a triumphant return to the Jackfish lineup going 4-for-5 with a pair of RBI.
"JS just extends our lineup that much more, big bat in the middle of the lineup," explained Welland Manager Brian Essery.
Starter Ben Abram went seven solid innings, giving up just one run on three hits, while striking out five.
"Ben was excellent again tonight," Essery said.
With just six games left in the regular season the Jackfish now lead second place London by four games and Barrie by five.
"First place is definitely something we're after. To have home field advantage in the playoffs is something we want. We want to play in front of our amazing fans as much as we can," added Essery.
Welland visits London Monday before hosting Brantford Thursday night as the Niagara Lawn Cocks will officially be born.
