WELLAND - The Welland Jackfish improved to (8-0) at home, and (12-2) with another come-from-behind victory, this time 17-9 over the Kitchener Panthers.

The Jackfish trailed this game 3-2 after one inning, and 5-3 after two-inning, before taking the lead for good, erupting for six runs in the seventh inning.

Welland has scored an extraordinary 67 runs over its last four games.

“Yes, it’s been an unbelievable last four games, the guys are just rolling,” said Jackfish Manager Brian Essery.

Matt Hilderbrandt led the offence with three hits, two home runs and four RBI, including one off the roof of a house in neighbouring right field.

“I’ve been trying to hit that house for two years, it was awesome,” Hilderbrandt said from the field after the contest.

"Definitely the longest home run at The Pond - the Hildy legend lives on,” added Essery.

The Jackfish now play a makeup, rained-out, affair against the Guelph Royals on Thursday night at Welland Stadium. The first pitch flies at 7:35 pm.

“I’m pleased with the way we bounced back this game,” Essery said. “We started off slow after getting in late last night from Branford. We don’t give up and keep battling.”
