Jackfish clinch fourth with win
HAMILTON – The Welland Jackfish locked up fourth place and home field in the first round of playoffs after a 9-6 win over the Hamilton Cardinals Friday night at Bernie Arbour Memorial Stadium.
Grant Okawa went 3-for-4 with two RBI and a run for Welland (19-17), which hosts London in Game 1 Tuesday.
DeAndre Asbury-Heath had three hits and scored twice, Greg Marco and Andrew Mercier each drove in a run and scored, and Vaughn Bryan singled, doubled and scored twice.
Matthew Clingersmith (6-1) went seven innings and allowed two runs on eight hits, striking out seven.
For Hamilton (20-16), Luke Tevlin went 3-for-5 with two runs, Grant Arnold singled, homered and drove in two and scored three times, Laine Renaud went 4-for-4 with two RBI, Jon Dziomba had two hits, an RBI and a run, and Connor Bowie added an RBI.
Ben Braun (2-3) took the loss, allowing four runs (two earned) on four hits in five innings. He walked four and struck out three.
