Jackfish drop first meeting with Panthers

KITCHENER -- Liam Wilson went deep twice and drove in eight as the Kitchener Panthers opened the home portion of their schedule Sunday afternoon with an 18-7 win over Welland.

Lucas Diluca had three RBI and scored twice. He was one of six Panthers to register at least two hits, as Kitchener finished with 15 overall. Jett Jarvis singled twice and scored three times, Carter Arbuthnot went 2-for-4 with two runs, Evyn Sherman picked up a pair of hits while driving in a run and scoring once, Blake Jacklin singled, tripled and scored twice with an RBI, and Nick Parsons drove in a run. 

Liam Devine (1-0) earned the win, giving up two runs on two hits in three innings of relief. He walked two and struck out two. Stephen Gade threw three scoreless innings to start the game, walking three and striking out three. 

Kitchener evened its record at 1-1. 

For Welland (2-3), Dane Tofteland went 3-for-4 with a home run, three RBI and three runs. Aaron Dunsmore and Andrew Mercier drove in the other runs. Tony Kwon singled twice and scored twice. 

Eric Hegadoren (0-2) was pulled with one out in the second inning, though four of the seven runs he allowed were unearned as Welland made four errors. He walked three and didn't record a strikeout.
