Jackfish keep streak alive
BARRIE - On the heels of a record-breaking opening to their 2025 season, the Jackfish extended their win streak to seven with a 4-3 win over the Barrie Baycats at Athletic Kulture Stadium on Thursday night.
The undefeated Jackfish (7-0) entered the inning down 1-0 but tied the game when Greyson Barrett drove in Jake Sanford. Welland took the lead on Joshua Marchese’s bases-loaded walk, which set the stage for Weisner.
Sanford and Gianfranco Morello both finished with two hits.
On the mound, Teodoro Ortega (2-0) earned the win. The Jackfish righty was charged with two runs on four hits. He struck out nine before being pulled with two outs in the bottom of the sixth. Deivy Mendez worked around a one-out walk to secure his first save.
Noel McGarry-Doyle had half of Barrie’s six hits, which included a solo home run. Willy Garcia also went deep with the bases empty, and Nolan Machibroda added an RBI as Barrie dropped to 2-6.
Cesar Rosado (1-1) took the loss on the mound after giving up four runs on four hits in 5.2 innings. He walked four and struck out two.
