By ROD MAWHOOD
The Welland Jackfish won their fourth straight game, and improved to (7-3) on the season with an 11-5 win over the Kitchener Panthers.
The Jackfish are a perfect (6-0) at home to start the season.
Robert Mullen had arguably his best game in a Welland uniform, going 3-for-5 with a homerun, three runs batted in and three runs scored.
"Nice to see Mullen break out today," said Jackfish Manager Brian Essery after the contest. "We knew it was coming and it did today in a big way. Single, double and home run."
Mullen raised his average to .310 with the standout performance.
Leadoff hitter Dawson Tweet also had three hits in the win.
In fact, every Welland starter registered a hit except Matteo Porcellato who still leads all Jackfish regulars with a .405 batting average on the season.
"Tweet had another solid game from the top of the lineup. (Caleb) Feuerstake with two hits and (Tyson) Gomm with two huge RBI hits early in the game.
Welland was buoyed by a strong start from Enrique Saldana who went seven strong innings in his Jackfish debut to pick up the victory.
"Happy with the win and looking forward to keeping it going tomorrow afternoon in Toronto."
The Jackfish will indeed visit the Toronto Maple Leafs Sunday afternoon, before hosting the Hamilton Cardinals Thursday evening.
