Jackfish maul Majors to tie series

WELLAND, ON — Ben Abram delivered eight stellar innings on the mound, while the Jackfish offence erupted in a dominant 13-1 victory over the London Majors Thursday night at The Pond.

The win evens the best-of-seven opening-round playoff series at 2-2, setting up a pivotal Game 5 Friday night in London before the series returns to Welland Stadium for Game 6 on Saturday at 7:05 p.m.

Ethan Mann led the way offensively for the Fish, going 4-for-6 with three RBI as Welland pounded out 19 hits in the victory.

“Ben was amazing tonight. He’s a horse and saved our bullpen again,” said Jackfish Manager Brian Essery following the game.

“Nice to see some big hits with runners in scoring position. We’ll enjoy this tonight and be ready for tomorrow in London.”

Abram kept the Majors’ offence in check throughout his eight-inning performance, giving the Jackfish bullpen some valuable rest ahead of Friday night’s Game 5.

London starter Luis Perez was charged with the loss.

The Jackfish will look to take their first lead of the series Friday night in London before returning home for Game 6 on Saturday, September 12 at 7:05 p.m. at Welland Stadium.
