Jackfish Offence Explodes in 30-8 Rout of Panthers

The Welland Jackfish put on an offensive clinic for the record books Sunday night, crushing a franchise-record 11 home runs on the way to a jaw-dropping 30-8 victory over the Kitchener Panthers at Jack Couch Park.

The 30-run explosion was one of the most dominant performances in franchise history, as the Jackfish pounded out 24 hits, scored in seven different innings and completed a perfect week with their fifth consecutive victory. The win also helped solidify Welland's place atop the Canadian Baseball League standings.

The Jackfish wasted little time setting the tone, attacking from the opening inning and never taking their foot off the gas. Every time the Panthers threatened, Welland answered with another barrage of hits, turning the game into a home run derby and leaving no doubt about the outcome.

Leading the offensive onslaught was rookie Logan Grant, who enjoyed a career night in a Jackfish uniform. The first-year slugger launched three home runs, including the first of his Canadian Baseball League career, while driving in an incredible seven runs to power the Welland offence.

Grant wasn't alone. The Jackfish lineup delivered from top to bottom, producing a relentless stream of extra-base hits, multi-hit performances and timely RBIs. By night's end, the Fish had rewritten the franchise record book with their 11 long balls and reached the 30-run mark in emphatic fashion.

The pitching staff took care of the rest, keeping Kitchener at bay while receiving more than enough offensive support. Although the Panthers managed eight runs, the Jackfish answered every push with another offensive eruption, cruising to one of the most memorable wins in club history.

The victory capped a spectacular weekend for Welland, which outscored its opponents 42-14 over its final two games after Saturday's 12-6 win over Hamilton. Riding a five-game winning streak and swinging the hottest bats in the league, the Jackfish head into the final stretch of the regular season with plenty of momentum.

The Jackfish return to The Pond on Thursday, July 30, when they host the Kitchener Panthers for Thirsty Thursday. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m., with gates opening at 6:00 p.m. as the Fish look to keep their incredible winning streak rolling.
