The Welland Jackfish picked up their first win of the season, 9-6 over the visiting Guelph Royals.
The Jackfish played nearly flawless baseball for eight innings before the Royals responded with a six run ninth inning.
Jake Harford improved to (1-1) on the season pitching five innings of five strikeout baseball.
At the dish, the Fish were led by a number of their 2023 newcomers.
Shortstop Luis Jean had two hits, scored three runs, stole three bases and drove in three to lead the Welland offense.
Left-fielder Chris Robertson went 3-for-4 at the plate, while designated hitter Steven Moretto homered in his Jackfish debut.
Welland would steal eight bases in total in the victory.
"We dominated for eight and a half innings, we scuffed in the ninth inning but we'll take the win," Jackfish Manager Brian Essery said.
"It was nice to see Moretto hit a home run in his first at bat, and Robinson with three hits in his first game.
Jake threw well, we have so much confidence in him. (Mike) Mueller and (Brett) Lawson also threw well in relief."
The Jackfish conclude a home and home with Royals on Saturday in Guelph, before visiting Toronto on Sunday, and then returning home next Thursday night to take on the Brantford Red Sox.
