Jackfish Re-Sign Right Handed Pitchers
Welland, Ontario - The Welland Jackfish, members of the Intercounty Baseball League (IBL) today announced the re-signing of right-handed pitchers Matt Clingersmith and Christian Young for the 2020 season.
Matt Clingersmith, 6'6" and 230 lbs, is a Niagara Falls resident who appeared in 8 games with the Jackfish in 2019. Finishing the season with a 6-1 record, Matt struck out 37 batters while only walking 13 in 55.1 innings of work.
“What Clinger brings to the field and the clubhouse is beyond measure,” said Jackfish General Manager Jason McKay. “A strike-throwing machine, Matt helped the Jackfish with a solid performance every time he took to the mound. We are extremely fortunate and excited to have him back for 2020.”
Christian Young, a 6'5", 215 lbs Mercyhurst University alumni rejoins the Jackfish after an impressive rookie IBL season. Canadian-born Hamburg, New York resident held a 2-0 record in 2019 with 39 strikeouts and eleven walks over 44.1 innings of work.
“We only had Christian for half a season last year but every outing he gave us an opportunity to win” said McKay. Young pounds the strike zone hard and does not walk guys which is all you ask out of your pitchers. We are excited to have him back for 2021.”
The Welland Jackfish are a member of Canada’s top baseball league, the Intercounty Baseball League. The 100-year old summer league is one of the oldest baseball leagues in the world, with the league established in 1919, drawing significantly more fans, in a friendly ballpark experience, than any league of its kind.
