Jackfish re-sign “Silent Assassin” Teodoro Ortega for 2026 season

WELLAND, ON — The Welland Jackfish are fired up to announce the return of one of the most dominant arms in the Canadian Baseball League, as the club has officially re-signed right-handed pitcher Teodoro “The Silent Assassin” Ortega for the 2026 season.

Ortega has quietly — and ruthlessly — established himself as one of the league’s premier pitchers. During the 2025 season, the Panama City native posted a stellar 7-1 record with a 2.25 ERA across 11 starts, while striking out 81 batters in just 60 innings.

When the lights got brighter, Ortega got even better.

In the 2025 playoffs, the “Silent Assassin” was nearly untouchable, going a perfect 4-0 with a microscopic 0.96 ERA, striking out 27 batters over 28 innings to help lead the Jackfish on their championship run.

Standing at 6-foot and throwing right-handed, Ortega combines precision, poise, and swing-and-miss stuff that keeps hitters guessing — and often walking back to the dugout.

“Teodoro doesn’t say much… he just deals,” said Jackfish GM Jason McKay. “Big games, big moments — he’s the guy you want on the mound. When he’s pitching, you can feel the confidence in the dugout.”

With a career CBL record of 14-2 and a remarkable 1.81 ERA, Ortega has become a cornerstone of the Jackfish pitching staff and a nightmare for opposing hitters.

His return adds another major piece to a Jackfish roster looking to defend its title in 2026.
