The Welland Jackfish used a 10-run eighth inning to batter the Brantford Red Sox 13-1 at Welland Stadium Thursday night.

Both starters, Ben Abram for the Jackfish and Jeremias Sucre for the Red Sox, held their opponents scoreless for three innings before Welland designated hitter Robert Mullen opened the scoring with a solo homerun in the fourth inning.

Abram pitched a gem, while Mullen went 3-for-4 with three runs batted in and is now hitting .438 on the season.

"Ben is just doing his thing, eight solid innings, he's tough and a bulldog out there, and Mullen had another big night at the plate," explained Welland skipper Brian Essery.

Brandon Hupe highlighted a 10-run eighth inning with a three run triple and finished the game with four RBI.

"It was really nice to see Hupe break out like that tonight," Essery added.

The Jackfish now embark on a four-game road trip beginning Friday night in Brantford, before visiting Chatham-Kent Saturday night.
