Jackfish sign Diodati ahead of deadline
Welland, Ontario - The Welland Jackfish, members of the Intercounty Baseball League (IBL) are excited to announce the signing of catcher Owen Diodati.
Diodati, a Niagara Falls native, joins the Jackfish from the University of Alabama. In 2021 Owenn recorded three doubles, 1 triple, 11 home runs, and 40 RBI. The sophomore was selected as an NCBWA Preseason Third Team All-American and was on the SEC Spring Academic Honor Roll.
Diodati grew up in Niagara Falls in Ontario, his secondary school A.N. Myer located just a 20-minute drive from Horseshoe Falls, the iconic largest waterfall that straddles the border between Canada and the United States. Primarily a catcher at A.N. Myer, he was considered not only one of the best at his position but one of the top players in Canada by multiple scouting organizations.
This summer, Diodati suited up for the Wareham Gatemen of the Cape Cod League. In 36 games played, Owen recorded 5 doubles, 7 home runs, and 23 RBI.
The Welland Jackfish are a member of Canada’s top baseball league, the Intercounty Baseball League. The 100-year old summer league is one of the oldest baseball leagues in the world, with the league established in 1919, drawing significantly more fans, in a friendly ballpark experience, than any league of its kind.
