Jackfish Sign Fonthill Native Ryan Bench
WELLAND – The Welland Jackfish, members of the Intercounty Baseball League (IBL) today are pleased to announce the signing of left-handed pitcher Ryan Bench for the 2019 season.
The 22 year-old Fonthill, Ontario native played last year with the Brock Badgers and Champion City Kings of the Prospect League. In five games played with the Kings, Bench recorded a 3.17 ERA with a 1-0 record. With fifty-four batters faced, Ryan would strikeout four and walk four while only giving up four earned runs.
“With coaches from the area like Essery and Pillitteri, the Jackfish became a very viable option for the local guys looking for a higher level of ball, and potentially a chance at furthering their baseball careers” said Bench. “With the local support already seen this off-season, I am excited to be a part of the inaugural Jackfish season!”
A product of local elite program at Bullettproof Baseball Academy, Ryan would develop through the ranks of the Bullettproof program before enrolling at Brock University and began his career playing for the Badgers. Given his sidearm delivery form the left side and repertoire of pitches that allows him to effective when facing both rightys and lefties the future looks bright for Bench.
“I have known Ryan for several year and believe he will be very successful in the IBL” said Jackfish Field Manager Brian Essery. “He is a great addition to our pitching staff and we will rely on him in many situations this season.”
