Jackfish Sign Righty Braulio Ortiz

WELLAND – The Welland Jackfish, members of the Intercounty Baseball League (IBL) today announced the signing of right-handed relief pitcher Braulio Ortiz for the 2019 season.

Braulio, a San Cristobal, Dominican Republic native, joins the Jackfish after spending the 2018 season with the Milwaukee Brewers affiliates the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers and Carolina Mudcats. In twenty games played, Ortiz recorded a 5.40 ERA with thirty-four strikeouts over 23.1 innings pitched.

“Braulio is a power arm that provides back end innings to this years staff” said Jackfish General Manager Jason McKay. “With 300 innings of professional baseball, he brings a wealth of experience to the club. The fans of Welland will be in for a treat when this summer.”

Beginning his minor league career in the Chicago White Sox farm system before moving on to the Cincinnati Reds, Braulio would reach the double A Southern League with the Birmingham Barons.
