Jackfish storm back to take series stranglehold

LONDON – After falling behind early, the Welland Jackfish scored six straight runs to push the London Majors to the brink of elimination following a 6-3 win Friday night at Labatt Park.

Welland leads the best-of-seven quarter-final 3-0 with Game 4 Sunday afternoon back in London.

Vaughn Bryan's blast over the left-field fence with two on in the eighth capped a four-run inning for Welland, which added two more runs in the ninth.

Brandon Nicholson went 2-for-5 with two runs and an RBI, Brendon Dadson had a pair of hits and an RBI, Bryce O'Farrell drove in a run, and Wilson Soriano singled twice.

Christian Young (1-0) went seven innings for the win, allowing three runs on seven hits with six strikeouts. Rich Corrente recorded the last six outs for his first save of the postseason. Corrente scattered three hits and didn't issue a walk or pick up a strikeout.

For London, Cleveland Brownlee singled twice and drove in a pair of runs. Ismael Pena and Myles Miller each had two hits and a run, Mike Ambrose doubled twice and added an RBI, and Yuki Yasuda singled and scored and stole his third base of the series.

Jon Fitzsimmons (0-1) took the loss, giving up four runs on five hits in 1.2 innings. He struck out two. Migel Burgos started and went 7.1 innings, allowing two runs on four hits with four walks and six strikeouts.
