Jackfish to join Banana Ball in 2027

Niagara’s Greatest Show just got a little more… potassium.
WELLAND, ON — In a move that has stunned baseball purists, confused statisticians, and thrilled anyone who enjoys a good time, the Welland Jackfish are officially joining the Banana Ball Champions League for the 2027 season.
Yes. That Banana Ball.
The one with dancing pitchers, flaming bats (probably), and rules that may or may not have been written on the back of a napkin during a beach party.
“Frankly, we’ve always believed baseball should be fun,” said team President & Director of Fun Ryan Harrison. “Now we just have to figure out how to hit a home run while doing the Macarena and wearing a banana suit.”
While details of the league are still emerging, sources confirm the following potential rule changes for 2027:
- Games will be two hours or less… because snacks get cold.
- Fans may catch foul balls for outs… finally giving Uncle Dave a purpose.
- Batters can steal first base… chaos is now encouraged.
- Every player must have at least one “wow” move per game. Jazz hands count.
The Jackfish are already preparing for the transition, with early reports indicating:
- Tryouts for “Designated Dancers” are underway.
- The bullpen cart is being replaced with a banana-shaped hovercraft (budget pending).
- Newark Brewing is exploring a limited-edition “Banana Boat Lager” (drinkability: elite, potassium: questionable).
“Our fans expect Niagara’s Greatest Show,” added Harrison. “So naturally, we said yes to a league where the seventh inning stretch might include a choreographed routine and a guy in a gorilla suit stealing second base.”
The team assures fans that traditional baseball will still be played in 2026… mostly.
But come 2027, expect the unexpected.
Tickets for the inaugural Banana Ball Champions League season will go on sale at tickets.wellandjackfish.com or by calling 905-735-9834.
Fans are encouraged to stretch, hydrate, and begin practicing their dance moves immediately.
