Jackfish too much for the Red Sox
WELLAND - A picture-perfect night in the Rose City on Thursday saw the Jackfish bats come alive against the Brantford Red Sox.
The Red Sox were coming into the ball game having only won three games this season but two of those wins have come in the past week. Matt Clingersmith started for the Jackfish and went eight complete innings, gave up only two runs on six hits.
The second inning saw four runs come across the plate for the Jackfish including a two run, double, off the bat of Wilson Soriano. Fast forward to the bottom of the Eighth to a very scary moment for the Jackfish. Starting shortstop Wilson Soriano was forced to leave the ball game after suffering a lower body injury from sliding awkwardly into second base. Soriano has started every game this season at short for the Fish.
After all the dust was settled the Jackfish defeated the Red Sox by a final score of 9-2 and improved to 13-10 on the season and sit 4.5 games back of the league leading Barrie Baycats and Kitchener Panthers.
Welland will be on the road this weekend with trips to Guelph on Saturday night and Toronto on Sunday afternoon.
The Jackfish return home on Thursday, July 18th as they host the Hamilton Cardinals for Major League Night. First 500 fans through the gate will receive a free pair of wild thing sunglasses. The Jackfish will also be wearing Major League specialty jerseys that will be auctioned post-game. For tickets and more information, visit our website at wellandjackfish.com
