Jackfish Walk Off Red Sox in Extras Before Record Eighth Sellout

WELLAND, ON – The Welland Jackfish gave another sold-out crowd at The Pond plenty of bonus baseball Thursday night, outlasting the Brantford Red Sox 6-5 in 10 innings.

The victory came in front of the Jackfish’s eighth sellout of the season, setting a new franchise record.

Welland jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the third inning before Brantford battled back with five unanswered runs to take a 5-4 advantage in the seventh.

The Jackfish responded in the bottom half to tie the game at five and eventually force extra innings.

In the bottom of the 10th, Greyson Barrett played the hero, delivering a bases-loaded RBI single to bring home the winning run and send another packed house home happy. Barrett finished with two RBI on the night.

Jonah Weisner and Brendan Luther each collected two hits for Welland.

The Jackfish bullpen once again came up big. Erik Johnson tossed three outstanding innings in relief, allowing just one hit while striking out five to earn the victory.

"The two Erik's did it again — Eric Pettipiece and Erik Johnson — for us in back-to-back Thursdays out of the bullpen," said Jackfish Manager Brian Essery.

"That was a gritty win. Brantford gave us everything we could handle. We'll take the win and get ready for Hamilton tomorrow night."

Christian Kuzemka recorded three hits for Brantford, while Francisco Martinez drove in two runs. Haldon Craig took the loss for the Red Sox.

The Jackfish hit the road Friday night to face Hamilton before returning to The Pond on Saturday night to take on the Kitchener Panthers. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
