The Welland Jackfish honoured the region's past, wearing Stompers jersey's in a 9-4 victory over the visiting Chatham-Kent Barnstormers.

The St. Catharines Stompers were the Toronto Blue Jays short-season Single A affiliate from 1996-1999.

Saturday night Gio Morello returned to the Jackfish lineup going 3-for-4 with a pair of RBI, and was just a home run shy of hitting for the cycle.

Brandon Hupe also had three hits, and scored three runs, while Ben Abram pitched another quality start going seven strong innings giving up just two earned runs.

"That was the Stompers first win since 1999," said a smiling Welland owner and Director of Fun Ryan Harrison after the contest.

The Jackfish visit Brantford Sunday afternoon before hosting the Guelph Royals Thursday evening. It's CAA Niagara Pack the Park Night.
