Baycats no match for IBL's hottest team
By Rod Mawhood
The Welland Jackfish continue to impress. The Barrie Baycats were the latest team to run into the Intercounty Baseball League's hottest club.
The Welland Jackfish picked up their twentieth win of the season, 9-3 was the final over Barrie. Every Welland starter was hitting over .300 to begin the game.
Right Fielder Brandon Nicholson led the way with three hits, four stolen bases and two RBI. Rich Corrente, despite being a veteran of the club, made a rare start at home and came through with a quality start, pitching six solid innings to pick up the win.
"Richie battled tonight, despite not having his best stuff," Welland Manager Brian Essery said. "He stayed with it, and got through six innings for us."
The (20-6) Jackfish take their six game win streak into Hamilton on Sunday.to take on the (6-19) Cardinals.
"Our six game win streak is nice," said Essery. "We'll go into Hamilton tomorrow and hopefully come back with another one."
Wyatt Hummel gets the start for Welland who return home on Thursday to take on the Kitchener Panthers.
