Jackfish wins battle for first place

LONDON – After tying the game in the ninth inning, the Welland Jackfish scored six times in the 10th to beat London 9-5 in a first-place showdown Sunday night at Labatt Park.
Welland (18-6) now leads London (16-8) by two games atop the IBL standings.
Mattingly Romanin went 2-for-5 in the win, and two of his three RBI came in extras. Hogan Brown laced a two-run single in the decisive frame, while Gianfranco Morello went 3-for-6 with a run, Matteo Porcellato had two hits and an RBI, Brandon Nicholson scored twice, Sam Cawker had two hits and three runs and James Smibert drove in a run and scored.
Chris Boatto pitched five innings of relief to earn the win. He gave up one unearned run on four hits while walking one and striking out seven. Wyatt Hummel started and went four innings, allowing two runs on two hits with two walks and five strikeouts.
Robert Mullen drove in two of the Majors’ runs on two hits. Mullen and Jakob Newton each had two hits and a run, while Austin Wilkie drove in a run and scored.
