Leafs use longball to beat Jackfish

TORONTO – The Toronto Maple Leafs hit three home runs in a 10-3 win over the Welland Jackfish Sunday afternoon at Christie Pits.

Damon Topolie and Greg Carrington each went deep for the first time this season. Topolie's longball was a solo shot. He also singled and doubled and scored twice. Carrington finished the game 3-for-4 with four RBI and two runs, and Marcus Knecht went 3-for-5 with his seventh home run, two RBI and two runs.

Cooper Lamb and Alberto Tirado each had a pair of hits and an RBI, and Alex Seelman went 2-for-4 with a pair of runs.

Zach Sloan (1-6) went 2.2 innings for the win, giving up a run on two hits with five walks and a strikeout. Mateo Kekatos started and went four innings, surrendering two runs on three hits with a walk and three punchouts.

DeAndre Asbury-Heath had three of Welland's six hits, including his second home run, and drove in two. Brendon Dadson had the other RBI.

Rich Corrente (2-1) took the loss, allowing eight runs on 11 hits in six innings. He struck out three.

Toronto improved to 10-17, and Welland fell to 14-11.
