Leyer sets tone for Jackfish Game One Win
WELLAND – Euclides Leyer struck out eight over seven innings as the Welland Jackfish opened the IBL playoffs at home with a 6-3 win over the London Majors Tuesday night.
Welland leads the best-of-seven series 1-0.
Leyer (1-0) allowed one run on six hits and walked two. Casey Bouillere-Howard struck out Cleveland Brownlee to end the game with two runners on base.
Offensively, Brendon Dadson and Nolan Pettipiece each drove in a pair of runs, DeAndre Asbury-Heath and Wilson Soriano had two hits and two runs apiece, and Mattingly Romanin went 3-for-5.
For London, Myles Miller went 4-for-4 with an RBI and a run. Byron Reichstein and Ismael Pena each had an RBI, and Yuki Yasuda singled and doubled.
Juliandry Higuera (0-1) took the loss, giving up four runs (three earned) on eight hits over seven innings. He walked four and struck out nine.
