Panama's Alberto Guerrero pitched six solid innings, while battery mate Carlos Martinez of Columbia had three hits - both in their Welland debuts -  as the Jackfish got by the Guelph Royals 8-2.

"Good start for Guerrero, he'll continue to get better with every start," Welland Manager Brian Essery said. "And nice first game for Carlos. Nice piece in the middle of our lineup."

Caleb Feuerstake also had three hits for the home side.

Despite the lopsided victory, Essery did add this, "we'll take the win, however, we still are lacking the execution. That's something we'll work on.

Lost in the latest Jackfish win was the immaculate inning Scott Gillespie threw to end the game. Nine pitches, all strikes, and all for strikeouts.

"That was impressive, and the first in Jackfish history," proclaimed Essery.

Welland now visits Toronto Sunday afternoon, before hosting Kitchener next Thursday night.
