Panthers hand Jackfish fourth straight loss

WELLAND - The Kitchener Panthers made their first trip to the Pond at Welland Stadium and left with a wire to wire victory.

Yorbis Borrotto hit five for five and was one of three Panthers to hit homeruns on Saturday afternoon.  Colin Gordner and Brian Burton each also had a home run for the Panthers.

The Jackfish were looking to snap a three-game losing streak but were unsuccessful as they could not find the timely hitting needed to keep up with the active bats that Kitchener brought to the ball game.  Matt Schmidt had another excellent game for Welland batting three for five, scored two, and brought in a run while Brandon Nicholson also went three for five, also scored two and brought in a run.

Nicholson was one of two players who made their debuts for the Jackfish on Saturday afternoon in front of 305 fans at the Pond.  The other newcomer was right-handed starting pitcher Christian Young who threw 6.1 innings and gave up seven runs, five of which were earned.

The Jackfish will look to snap this losing streak tomorrow afternoon on Fathers day and get back in the win column against the Guelph Royals.  Opening pitch is set for 1:05pm.  First 250 fans will receive a pair of Welland Jackfish limited edition sunglasses.
