Welland, Ontario - The Welland Jackfish picked up their eighth win of the season on a rare Wednesday night home game against the Hamilton Cardinals. The game was originally scheduled as the home opener back on July 8th but was rained out.

Griffin Keller took Hamilton's starter Ryan Burnside deep to right centre field for a three-run home run in the second inning. The Jackfish would never look back as the Cardinals could only get 2 runs on the board against Jake Polancic and the Jackfish.

Polancic had a very strong performance in his eight innings of work only giving up one earned run, walked two batters, struck out nine of the 30 batters he faced while allowing just four hits.  Brandon Nicholson went 3-for-4 and scored two runs in his return to the Pond and Jackfish lineup for the first time since 2019.

Dane Tofteland also was impressive again for Welland going 2-for-3 with a couple of RBIs.

Welland will welcome the league leading London Majors on Thursday and then host the Barrie Baycats on Saturday night for 6:05pm start time at home.  Saturday's ball game will feature a post-game firework display, for tickets call 905-735-9834 or visit wellandjackfish.com/TIX.
