Vaughn Bryan Returns to Canada

WELLAND – The Welland Jackfish, members of the Intercounty Baseball League (IBL) today announced that 2018 IBL All-Star and "AA" professional outfielder Vaughn Bryan will return to Canada and finish the season with the Jackfish.

The Sunrise, Florida native hit .333 with the Burlington Herd last season, hitting three home runs, driving in 15 RBIs, and a team high four triples.

“Vaughn Bryan is a legit five-tool player with his speed being maybe the best in the IBL” said Jackfish General Manager Jason McKay. “Vaughn’s arm strength and fielding is what made him a “AA” professional outfielder and being able to hit for average and power from both sides of the plate is what makes him even more of a threat.”

The speedy outfielder was a threat on the base paths stealing twelve bags.

Bryan’s success in the IBL earned him a spot on the 2018 IBL First Team All-Stars.

Before joining the Herd last season, Bryan suited up for the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks of the Independent American Association. Drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 35th round of the 2013 MLB June Amateur Draft, Vaughn would play for the Springfield Cardinals of the double A Texas League.

With Vaughn joining the Jackfish for the season, the Fish have moved first baseman Matt Schmidt to Guelph where he will join the Royals for the remainder of the season.

"Matt lacks absolutely nothing you want in a ballplayer, he has Incredible passion for playing the game right, a fantastic work ethic and a great teammate" said Jackfish General Manager Jason McKay. "His leadership will be missed but he returns to a team where he had most of his success and It’s a good fit."

The Welland Jackfish are a member of Ontario's most elite baseball league, the Intercounty Baseball League.
