Welland Jackfish Re-Sign Infielder and Fan Favourite Wilson Soriano
WELLAND - The Welland Jackfish, members of the Intercounty Baseball League (IBL) have announced the re-signing of infielder Wilson Soriano for the 2020 season.
Soriano enters his second season with the Welland Jackfish and third in the Intercounty League. Last year, Soriano appeared in thirty-two games and recorded thirty-four hits, ten doubles, a triple, two home runs and a team high twenty stolen bases along with a .262 average.
Soriano spent eight seasons in the Colorado Rockies organization, advancing as high as the Double-A level in 2016. He attended Major League Spring Training camp with the Rockies in 2016 and 2017 and has more than 100 games of professional experience at both second base and third base, as well as all three outfield positions.
"Wilson brings next level defense to the IBL” said Jackfish General Manager Jason McKay. “A spring training invite to the 2016 Rockies and a stalwart amongst league leaders in all short stop defensive categories. Wilson is a consummate team player and always a fan favourite.”
The Welland Jackfish are a member of Ontario's most elite baseball league, the Intercounty Baseball League. The 100-year old summer league is one of the oldest baseball leagues in the world, with the league established in 1919, drawing significantly more fans, in a friendly ballpark experience, than any league of its kind.
