Welland's bats come alive in Cards' crushing

WELLAND -- Six Welland batters had at least two hits as the host Jackfish hammered Hamilton 13-2 Thursday night.
Brandon Nicholson and Dane Tofteland each had three of Welland's 20 hits. They added three runs and two RBI apiece, while Brendon Dadson went 3-for-5 with a home run and four RBI. Griffin Keller drove in three on two singles and a double. He also scored twice. Eric Marriott singled three times and Matt Hilderbrandt went 2-for-5 with an RBI.
Jake Harford (1-0) struck out 11 over seven innings for the win. He gave up two runs on eight hits and walked a pair.
Cards' starting pitcher Chris Lazar (3-3) was touched for 10 runs (seven earned) on 14 hits in five innings. He struck out five and didn't issue a walk.
At the plate, Justin Gideon went 3-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI, and Tristan Osika singled three times and scored twice.
Welland (11-10) is tied with Toronto for third in the IBL standings, while Hamilton (9-11) remains in sixth spot.
