Welland walks off Baycats in 10th

WELLAND --- Welland fell behind three times Thursday night at home against Barrie, and each time it battled back against the reigning champions.
The persistent Jackfish finally capped its comeback with three runs in the 10th inning to stun the Baycats, 8-7.
Eric Marriott went 2-for-3 with two RBI, a stolen base and a run for Welland, which trailed 4-0 in the seventh before tying the game with four hits in the inning. Barrie regained the lead in the eighth, but the home side responded with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the ninth. The Baycats added two in the top of the 10th, which set up Welland's dramatic finish.
Ethan Pasco drove in two for the Jackfish, Zarley Cina singled twice and drove in a run, and Matt Hilderbrandt and Brandon Underhill each picked up an RBI.
Zachary Cameron (2-0) earned the win for Welland despite allowing two runs in the 10th. He walked one and struck out the side. Starter Jake Polancic went six innings, giving up two runs on seven hits with a walk and five strikeouts.
Brandon Hillier (0-1) was saddled with the loss for Barrie. The third Baycats' pitcher in the game gave up four runs (three earned) on three hits with a walk and strikeout in 1.2 innings. Starter Marshall Leishman was lifted with two outs in the seventh after allowing four runs on five hits with three walks and eight strikeouts.
Jake Wilson led Barrie's offence with three hits and an RBI. Mike Cecchetto and Marcel Lacasse each drove in a run, while David LeBlanc and Owen Jansen both had two hits and combined to score five times.
Welland improved to 6-7, and Barrie fell to 5-9.
