Welland Jackfish Re-Sign Starting Pitcher Euclides Leyer
WELLAND - The Welland Jackfish, members of the Intercounty Baseball League (IBL), have announced the return of right-handed pitcher Euclides Leyer for the 2020 season. Leyer, a-third year IBL starter, will join the Jackfish for another season after playing in the Dominican Professional Baseball League this winter.
Last year, the 6'2", 180-pound hurler appeared in 10 games for the Jackfish starting all 10 of them. Leyer finished the season with a 7-2 record and a 5.57 ERA. He compiled 67 strikeouts to just 29 walks in 63 innings pitched.
"Our number one priority headed into the off season was to secure our number one starter" said Jackfish General Manager Jason McKay. "Euclides gives the team a bona fide chance to win every time he takes to the mound. He throws strikes with all his pitches, he throws them hard and they all move. We are very happy to have him back anchoring our pitching staff."
Born December 28, 1990, Euclides, in seven professional seasons recorded a 4.74 ERA reaching as high as double A with the White Sox farm team the Birmingham Barons. Leyers best season came during the 2015 season with the Winston-Salem Dash where he had a 4-2 record with forty-six strikeouts and twenty-seven walks.
